Ascension Health Data Breach Latest News
Ascension has confirmed that on May 8, their network systems were hit with a ransomware attack reportedly carried out by the cybercriminal group Black Basta. Since then, Ascension has said that some of its electronic health records, patient portal, phone, and medical systems have been unavailable.
Patients affected by the Ascension Health cyber attack
Ascension has not confirmed whose data nor what kind of data has been compromised in the cyberattack. However, patients have experienced disruptions getting medications, test results, and other care across Ascension’s network of 140 hospitals, according to the New York Times and NPR. Doctors at Ascension facilities have said that they’ve had to go back to writing paper charts and test orders, “kind of like we went back 20 years, but not even with the tools we had then.”

Ascension has confirmed that a cybersecurity incident affected its facilities in over a dozen states. There have been significant disruptions reported at major hospitals in its network, including those in the Seton Healthcare system.
