Michael is a nationally recognized litigator who represents plaintiffs in complex products liability and mass tort litigation throughout the United States. For more than two decades, he has repeatedly been appointed by courts to leadership positions in some of the nation’s largest multidistrict litigations and coordinated state court proceedings involving pharmaceuticals, medical devices, consumer products, and technology platforms. He has earned a reputation for his exceptional trial skills, effectively managing sophisticated pretrial proceedings and advancing technically complex cases against some of the world’s largest corporations.

Michael is known for his strategic leadership in high-stakes litigation, particularly in the areas of discovery, bellwether trial preparation, state-federal coordination, and global settlement negotiations. He is widely respected for his collaborative leadership style, practical problem-solving, and ability to build consensus among plaintiffs’ counsel in complex proceedings involving competing interests and nationwide coordination.

Michael holds multiple leadership appointments in the federal social media addiction multidistrict litigation In re Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation, which consolidates thousands of lawsuits brought by school districts, families, and state attorneys general alleging that TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube intentionally designed their platforms to be addictive and caused harm to children and adolescents. He serves as Co-Chair of the School District Committee, Co-Chair of the TikTok Liability Team, and as a member of the Plaintiffs’ Leadership Committee.

Previously, in one of the most significant youth vaping litigations in the country In re Juul Labs, Inc. Products Liability Litigation, Michael served on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee, as Chair of the Law and Briefing Committee, and as Co-Chair of the Discovery Committee, where he was also a member of the bellwether trial team.

Michael has also held leadership appointments in numerous other nationally significant litigations, including In re Xarelto Products Liability Litigation, In re Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella Products Liability Litigation, In re Tylenol (Acetaminophen) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation, In re Pradaxa Products Liability Litigation, In re Fresenius Granuflo/Naturalyte Dialysate Products Liability Litigation, In re Johnson & Johnson Talcum Powder Products Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation, and In re Vioxx Products Liability Litigation.

Michael is recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the areas of complex litigation, class actions/mass torts, and product liability.  In addition, Michael serves as an Advisory Board member for the LexisNexis Practice Guides on Pennsylvania Civil Pre-Trial Practice and Pennsylvania Civil Trial Practice. He regularly lectures and speaks on topics involving complex litigation, multidistrict litigation practice, discovery strategy, bellwether trial preparation, and mass tort coordination.

Litigation Highlights

In re: Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation

Michael serves on the Plaintiffs’ Leadership Committee and as Co-Chair of the Discovery Committee in this multidistrict litigation involving claims against major social media companies arising from allegations that social media platforms were intentionally designed to maximize adolescent engagement and addiction. He has played a central role in coordinating discovery, managing complex pretrial proceedings, and preparing the litigation for bellwether trials. Michael was also one of the lead trial counsel for the first bellwether school district case on behalf of Breathitt County Schools that settled shortly before trial.

In re: Juul Labs, Inc. Products Liability Litigation

Michael served on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee, as Chair of the Law and Briefing Committee, and as Co-Chair of the Discovery Committee in this nationwide litigation involving claims related to youth vaping and nicotine addiction. He also served on the bellwether trial team and helped oversee large-scale discovery, expert coordination, motion practice, and trial preparation that contributed to a global resolution.

In re: Xarelto Products Liability Litigation

Michael served as Federal-State Liaison Counsel in the federal MDL and as Plaintiffs’ Liaison Counsel in the coordinated Pennsylvania state court proceedings involving allegations that the anticoagulant Xarelto caused serious and fatal bleeding injuries. He served on the federal and state bellwether trial teams that tried six bellwether cases and was a member of the Settlement Committee that negotiated and implemented the global settlement program resolving thousands of claims nationwide.

In re: Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella Products Liability Litigation

Michael served as Plaintiffs’ Liaison Counsel in the Pennsylvania coordinated proceedings involving claims that Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella birth control products caused serious thrombotic and cardiovascular injuries. He coordinated state and federal litigation efforts, managed discovery and motion practice, participated in bellwether trial preparation, and served on the Settlement Committee that negotiated and implemented global settlements resolving claims nationwide.

In re: Tylenol (Acetaminophen) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation

Michael served as Liaison Counsel and Chair of both the Discovery and Law and Briefing Committees in this litigation involving allegations that acetaminophen products caused severe liver injuries. He coordinated complex discovery and briefing efforts and served on the settlement team that negotiated the litigation’s global resolution.
