Ford Engine Fire Lawsuit Investigation
On May 17, 2022, Ford announced a recall of around 39,000 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators from the 2021 model year due to engine fire risk. Ford is warning vehicle owners to “park their vehicles outside due to the risk of fire,” per an NHTSA press release. Our auto defect attorneys are now investigating legal claims on behalf of Ford vehicle owners who may be impacted by this recall.
Hyundai and Kia Spontaneous Engine Fire Class Action Lawsuit
On April 15, 2022, Gibbs Law Group filed a class action lawsuit alleging a dangerous defect in thousands of Hyundai and Kia cars puts them at risk of catching fire while driving or parked. According to the complaint, the defect is in the Anti-Lock Brake systems module (ABS) that can short circuit and catch fire at any time due to trapped moisture that can accumulate and because the ABS maintains a continuous electrical charge. But despite knowing about this problem for more than a decade, according to the lawsuit, Hyundai and Kia haven’t done enough to keep customers safe or even reimburse them for all their expenses.

Electric Vehicle Fire Lawsuit Investigation
Emergency responders like firefighters and tow operators may be at serious risk when dealing with lithium-ion battery fires in electric vehicles like Tesla, Chevy Bolt, Nissan Leaf, and Mustang Mach-E. A November 2020 National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report identified a number of these risks following an investigation of four electric vehicle fires. In the report, the NTSB reviewed guidance documents for 36 manufacturers of electric vehicles, including documents from Tesla, Volkswagen, General Motors, and Nissan, and determined that many of these manufacturer’s emergency response guides for dealing with high-voltage lithium-ion battery fires are inadequate, and “lack vehicle-specific details on suppressing fires."
2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Flawed Fuel Tank Lawsuit Investigation
Certain 2019 RAV4 Hybrid vehicles could have a fuel tank defect that blocks the car from receiving a full refill by several gallons. According to a report by Automotive News, multiple RAV4 Hybrid owners have filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over the issue. Toyota is investigating the issue and although they have not established a final explanation, it has raised the possibility of a design flaw in the car's fuel tank system. It's unclear how widespread the issue is or how many vehicles may be affected. Toyota reportedly sold a total of 92,525 RAV4 Hybrids in 2019.
Tesla Sudden Acceleration Lawsuit Investigation
In January of 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that it will investigate allegations that Tesla Model 3, Model S, and Model X vehicles can suddenly accelerate on their own. The petition asking for an investigation states that there have been 127 owner complaints to the government regarding this issue, which includes 110 crashes and 52 injuries. These allegations cover about 500,000 Tesla cars made from 2013 to 2019, and may warrant a formal NHTSA probe.
Airbag Control Unit Lawsuit
Our attorneys have filed a class action lawsuit alleging a defect in 12.3 million airbag control units made by auto-part supplier ZF-TRW. According to the complaint, the affected airbag control units (ACUs) were installed in certain vehicles from car makers Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, and Fiat Chrysler. Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Brake Light Leak
Our auto defect attorneys are speaking with drivers about water leak problems in their 2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras. Nissan Sentra CVT Transmission Failure Lawsuit Investigation

Hyundai Shattered Sunroof Lawsuit

After several years of litigation, the parties reached a class action settlement on behalf of drivers of 2010-2016 Hyundai’s with panoramic sunroofs.
Jeep & Chrysler Transmission Investigation

Cadillac SRX Leaking Sunroof Investigation
Our auto defect attorneys are investigating reports of sunroof drain leakage and subsequent electronics failures in 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX vehicles. According to consumer complaints, the sunroof drain hoses in 2010-2012 may cause water to leak into the vehicle’s interior, which can damage interior components like wiring, electronic modules, and carpet. The drain hose material may shrink, causing the drain hoses to detach from the dash or sunroof allowing water to leak into the vehicle.

Exploding Sunroof Dangers
Panoramic sunroofs have been increasing in popularity since first appearing on American vehicles in the mid-2000s. As of 2011, more than 33% of new vehicles sold or made available in the U.S. featured a sunroof, a number the Wall Street Journal cites as a fourfold jump from 1990. Auto makers hoping to capture market share of drivers after that bright, spacious feeling are increasing the size and surface area of their panoramic sunroofs, and transforming them from luxury upgrade to economy upgrade, or even a standard feature. But the rise of panoramic sunroofs has also precipitated a rise in consumer complaints about the safety issues they pose – namely, a reduction in vehicle rollover strength, and the danger of spontaneously shattering glass.
Kia Exploding Sunroof Lawsuit

Nissan Altima Rusting Floorboards Lawsuit

Hyundai Sonata Engine Failure Lawsuit
Our attorneys filed a federal class action lawsuit on behalf of 2011-2014 model year Hyundai Sonata owners whose vehicles suffered premature and catastrophic engine failures. The lawsuit alleged that Hyundai sold Sonata vehicles with defective rotating assemblies in the Theta II 2.4 L engines that cause sudden and catastrophic engine failure. Hyundai denied the allegations.

Melting Dashboards Lawsuits
Attorneys with Gibbs Law Group and co-counsel filed class action lawsuits against Toyota, Mazda, and Nissan alleging that the dashboards on certain model year Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, Nissan, and Infiniti vehicles melt, become sticky, and cast a glare on the windshield that makes it difficult for drivers to see.
Toyota & Lexus Melting Dashboard Lawsuit
On October 1, 2014, Gibbs Law Group filed a lawsuit against Toyota Motor Sales, USA and Toyota Motor Corporation alleging that Toyota equipped certain vehicle models with defective dashboards. According to the complaint filed in the case, the dashboards melt and become sticky in heat and sunlight, emit noxious chemical smells, and take on a reflective surface quality. Light reflecting off an affected dashboard can temporarily blind the driver, the complaint alleges, endangering everyone on the road.
Subaru Oil Consumption Class Action
Gibbs Law Group attorneys and co-counsel litigated a class action lawsuit against Subaru that alleged that certain Subaru vehicles have defective engines, which burn a substantial portion of their oil. According to the lawsuit, this defect damaged engine parts and created a risk of stalling.
Takata Airbag Class Action Lawsuit Investigation
A class action lawsuit has been filed in federal court alleging that Japanese auto supplier Takata Corporation supplied Honda, GM, Toyota, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Mazda car manufacturers with potentially defective airbags that may rupture on activation, spraying shrapnel at drivers and passengers. The lawsuit has been brought against Takata, as well as a host of auto manufacturers whose vehicles may contain the potentially defective airbags.
Chrysler Defective Steering Class Action
Our attorneys filed a class action lawsuit on October 3, 2014, against Chrysler, alleging that some 2009-2012 Dodge Ram trucks were sold with a defect that could cause the trucks to experience broken tie rods, which can cause a loss of steering control.
Ford Fusion & C-MAX Hybrid MPG Lawsuit
Our attorneys filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Ford in 2013 alleging that the fuel economy ratings of the 2013 Fusion Hybrid and 2013 C-MAX Hybrid are overstated and the vehicles do not achieve the 47 MPG that Ford advertised.
Chrysler Totally Integrated Power Module Lawsuit
Our attorneys filed a class action lawsuit alleging that certain Chrysler-manufactured vehicles were equipped with defective Totally Integrated Power Modules, or TIPMs. The second amended complaint alleged that the defective TIPM can cause problems in starting a vehicle and stalling a vehicle.
Volkswagen (VW) & Audi Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
Gibbs Law Group filed a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen of America on behalf of owners and lessees of 2001-2003 Volkswagen Passat, Jetta, New Beetle, GTI and Golf vehicles, as well as Audi A4, TT and A6 vehicles. The class action suit alleged that the vehicles' ignition coils were defective and presented a potential safety concern to drivers of affected vehicles. The class action contended that Volkswagen violated consumer protection laws by concealing a known problem about its ignition coils.
Mitsubishi, Dodge, & Chrysler Class Action Settlement: Wheel Rim Auto Defect Lawsuit
Gibbs Law Group and co-counsel filed class action lawsuits across the country, representing nearly 400,000 class members nationwide against Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. and DaimlerChrysler Corp. The class action lawsuits alleged that Mitsubishi and Chrysler failed to tell their customers about the wheel rim problems, which posed a potential safety risk to consumers, even after learning of the problem. The class action lawsuits alleged violations of various California, Missouri, and Kansas consumer protection laws.
Honda & Acura Brake Pads Class Action
Gibbs Law Group LLP and co-counsel filed a class action complaint against Honda on behalf of plaintiffs and other owners and lessees of certain 2008-2010 Honda Accord and 2009-2010 Acura TSX vehicles. The complaint alleged that a defect caused the vehicles’ rear brake pads to wear prematurely and that Honda did not tell its customers about the defect or cover the repairs under warranty. Honda has denied the allegations.
Toyota Prius HID Headlight Class Action
Our attorneys filed a class action lawsuit against Toyota alleging that the company failed to tell its customers about a problem with the high intensity discharge, or HID, headlights on certain Prius vehicles. The lawsuit alleged that this defect caused the headlights to prematurely fail by flickering or turning off intermittently, often requiring costly repairs.
Hyundai Tiburon Class Action Lawsuit
Gibbs Law Group LLP filed a class action complaint in federal court in 2006 involving the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. The complaint alleged that though Hyundai knew the vehicles’ flywheel and clutch parts failed prematurely, it sold the vehicles without telling customers and later refused to cover repairs under warranty.
Mercedes-Benz Tele Aid Class Action Lawsuit
A nationwide class action is pending in New Jersey federal court on behalf of Mercedes-Benz owners and lessees relating to the Tele Aid systems installed in their vehicles. The Plaintiffs allege that Mercedes-Benz failed to inform its customers that the analog only Tele Aid systems in their vehicles would become obsolete in 2008 unless they paid hundreds of dollars for a digital upgrade. Plaintiffs allege that Mercedes-Benz knew as early as 2002 that the FCC would no longer require cellular providers to support analog cellular phone services but did not begin informing its customers that this would adversely impact their analog Tele Aid systems until late 2006.
Ford Freestyle Surging Class Action Lawsuit
In 2011, our attorneys filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Ford involving the 2005-2007 Ford Freestyle. The lawsuit alleged that Ford sold and leased the Freestyle without warning customers about a problem that causes the Freestyle to surge while idling. The case was before the United States District Court for the Southern District of California and Judge Michael M. Anello.
BMW Class Action Lawsuit: 3 Series (E46) Sub-Frame
Gibbs Law Group and co-counsel filed a national class action lawsuit against BMW in federal court in Los Angeles, California. The class action lawsuit alleged that 1999-2006 BMW 3 series vehicles suffer from defective sub-frames and that BMW was aware of the alleged defect, but failed to notify consumers or pay for sub-frame repairs under warranty. The lawsuit additionally alleged consumer fraud, deceptive advertising, and that BMW had implemented a secret warranty program.
BMW 5-Series Airbag Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
Gibbs Law Group filed a class action lawsuit against BMW in California Superior Court, Los Angeles County. The class action alleged that BMW failed inform its customers of a known problem in the seat occupation detection system and that by concealing the defect, BMW was able to sell and charge more for the vehicles than they would have otherwise. The lawsuit alleged that BMW's failure to fix this problem violated various consumer protection and warranty laws.
Hyundai & Kia Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
Gibbs Law Group' false advertising lawyers filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of U.S. Hyundai and Kia owners and lessees, contending that Hyundai continued to advertise false horsepower ratings in the United States even after the Korean Ministry's findings. The class action complaint alleged that Hyundai and Kia were able to sell more vehicles and charge more per vehicle because of the deceptive advertising.
Hyundai Elantra Airbag Class Action Lawsuit
Owners of 2004-2006 Hyundai Elantras from across the country reported experiencing problems with their front airbags. Owners reported that the passenger airbags would sometimes fail to activate, leaving the passenger vulnerable to injury in the event of an accident.
