Gibbs Law Group LLP Selected as Interim Co-Lead Counsel in Lenovo Case
July 30, 2015
Gibbs Law Group LLP has been appointed as interim co-lead counsel in the multidistrict litigation against computer manufacturer Lenovo concerning pre-installed adware on its computers. Gibbs Law Group competed against several top firms and was chosen for its expertise in technology and privacy class action cases and its demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with the large number of plaintiffs and attorneys involved in the consolidated litigation.
The lawsuit filed by the firm earlier this year alleges that the Chinese electronics manufacturer and Superfish violated federal privacy and other laws when it sold computers equipped with preinstalled VisualDiscovery spyware. According to the lawsuit, VisualDiscovery scans the private data of certain Lenovo users in order to insert targeted advertisements when users attempt to access unencrypted and encrypted websites. The lawsuit alleges that the insertion of these targeted ads compromises a computer’s security and makes users’ private data extremely vulnerable and at risk.
